David J. Lechner, MD

Dave passed away at home on January 27, 2017, after a brief illness. He was a devoted husband and father, an adoring grandfather, an avid fly fisher-man, and a trusted physician.

Born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Dave graduated from Middlebury College and the University of Rochester Medical School. He then trained in pediatrics and ophthalmology at the University of Washington. He practiced ophthalmology in West Seattle for 34 years.

Dave is survived by his wife Nancy, children Matthew and Kathryn, four grandchildren, and brother Thomas Lechner.

Nancy and I visited Dave and Nnncy in Seattle several times after our oldest settled in Redmond, WA.  We grew apart and I stopped receiving Christmas Cards.  Out of the blue Dave sent an e-mail saying that he had terminal cancer and planned to go fishing rather than have chemo for a tumor for which the prognosis even with chemo was dismal.  We were to visit in the spring when he came East to see his brother.  Dave did not live until spring.

Dave was a Junior Fellow with me in Hepburn Hall.  He was best man at my wedding.  While we had stopped communicating Dave has been in my heart for these many years, and will remain so.
